We START, when others STOP!

Dear Colleague,

In an evolving era of information technology, it is becoming inevitably more evident day by day that the traditional practices of Human Resources and Human Capital Management are facing tremendous challenges in presenting practical solutions.

Furthermore, to compensate for the shortcomings of these traditional practices, although packaging and presenting the racial and cultural differences as DIVERSITY raised some hopes for a while, it is becoming apparent that its era has also come to an end.

In analyzing the gaps in the traditional systems and their approaches to the issue of human in the context of an organization, it was realized that modern and practical approaches were required to fully define the essence of human as a complex entity. During this process, the next logical step was to recognize two main building blocks of every human being; Intelligence & Emotion. Consequently, the concept of Emotional Intelligence was introduced and praised as the most appropriate approach.

Although a step forward in appreciating the role of human in an organization, if one evaluate the Emotional Intelligence at its root and measure its applicability, it becomes apparent that it may not be more than a myth. This is why:

- Intelligence and Emotion are inseparable building components of every human.
- Similar to Aptitude, in every human, Intelligence is the collection of all abilities revealed to date and the unexploited ones. For simplicity, it is the collection of all Hard Logics.
- Similar to Attitude, in every human, Emotion is the collection of like and dislikes and experiences that one has gained to date and will possess in the future. For simplicity, it is the collection of all soft type attributes.
- In a simple analogy, Intelligence may be represented as water, Emotion as oil and human as an enclosed jar containing both. Therefore, although water and oil may co-exist in the jar, while they never dissolve in each other, at every moment they are in constant struggle for having more presence over the other. Similarly, at every moment, one's behaviour is either dominated by intelligence or emotion.

So, considering above, does the term Emotional Intelligence have any merit and practicality in describing the complex nature of a human?!; Absolutely Not!
